ISCA will collaborate with SG Cares Office to grow skills-based volunteerism in the accountancy profession

10 May 2021

The “Growing Skills-Based Volunteerism” MOU Signing Ceremony between SG Cares Office and Institute Of Singapore Chartered Accountants took place on 10 May. The collaboration aims to enable Social Service Agencies (SSAs) to benefit from the skills and expertise of ISCA members as professional accountants.

Mr Edwin Tong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth & Second Minister for Law, said:

“I know that contributing to the community is not new for ISCA. In 2015, ISCA established the charity ISCA Cares which represents the collective effort of the accountancy profession to give back to society. I am happy to know that ISCA Cares has two very meaningful focus areas. The first is on our future – where ISCA Cares provides youths from disadvantaged backgrounds with quality accountancy education through financial and non-financial assistance... The second is on the community – where ISCA Cares harnesses the knowledge, skills and expertise of the accountancy community for appropriate development projects through collaborative programmes with partners.”

ISCA President Mr Kon Yin Tong also shared in his speech on one of the few initiatives of ISCA Cares:

“The culture of volunteerism is in fact not foreign to our members. Our charity arm, ISCA Cares, provides a platform for the accountancy profession and our members to give back to the society and help those in need. Launched in 2017, the ISCA Cares Mentoring Programme is a year-long programme designed to provide young accountancy students from financially vulnerable families, with access to mentorship from experienced accountants… To date, 80 ISCA members have volunteered for this programme, benefitting 125 students and beneficiaries.”

ISCA Cares Raises Over $421,000 Through Charity Golf Event

IN TUNE, ISCA Journal
May 2021

ISCA Cares raised over $421,000 through its inaugural Charity Golf event, including matching funds from Tote Board. Held on March 19 and 26 at Orchid Country Club, golfers played their hearts out at the beautifully lush and manicured Dendro and Aranda courses. Originally scheduled for March 27 last year, the event was met with overwhelming response from sponsors and donors, with the 35 flights fully sold out.

ISCA Cares Chairman, Mr Max Loh, asserts that the charity will continue to provide financial assistance to more students in this time of need. “The lower-income households would be hardest hit by Covid-19’s long economic fallout. ISCA Cares is committed to support more needy students in 2021. The funds raised through the Charity Golf event will go a long way towards this end.”

ISCA Cares would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation to the Charity Golf Organising Committee who have made the event a reality, as well to all donors, sponsors and Tote Board for their support.

The Accountancy Community Sends Timely Financial Aid To Youths In Need Amid Covid-19 Crisis

IN TUNE, ISCA News
Aug 2020

In the August issue of ISCA News - In Tune, three of our ISCA Cares beneficiaries shared their challenges, how Covid-19 had impacted them, yet remaining hopeful despite all of that.

Quoting one of our ISCA Cares beneficiaries, Sarah:

“I found strength and motivation to work hard because of the people who supported me through challenging times. They include my family, teachers, friends and ISCA Cares. I feel I should not take any of this help for granted.”

Despite the hardships, the aspiring tax accountant remains optimistic about the future. Sarah hopes that one day, she will in turn be able to help youths who face similar financial struggles.

To provide timely financial assistance to disadvantaged youths like Sarah, ISCA Cares, the charity arm of ISCA, brought forward the disbursement of its ISCA Cares Education Programme bursaries this year, with the aim to help the lower-income who are more severely impacted by the economic fallout due to the pandemic.

“We would like to thank all ISCA Cares donors for their generous support. Their contributions have made it possible for ISCA Cares to reach out to some of those who have been most financially impacted by the pandemic,” says Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, ISCA Cares Chairman
