SIX NEW LEADERS JOIN ICPAS COUNCIL

- Leadership renewal process on track, with close to one-third of the Council comprising new faces
- New Council Members include Group CFOs of large listed companies, Managing Partner of mid-tier firm, and Founder of an SMP
Singapore, April 29, 2013 – Six distinguished members have joined the Council of the national accountancy body, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore (ICPAS). As Council Members, they will provide strategic direction and counsel to the Institute as it pursues its vision to be a globally recognised accountancy body, bringing value to members, the profession and the wider community.
The new ICPAS Council Members are:
- Mr Chan Hon Chew, Senior Vice-President, Finance, Singapore Airlines Limited
- Mr Paul Lee Seng Meng, Managing Partner, RSM Chio Lim LLP
- Ms Lee Shi Ruh, Chief Financial Officer, Genting Singapore
- Mr Lee Wai Fai, Group Chief Financial Officer, UOB Group
- Mr Ong Pang Thye, Head of Audit, KPMG Singapore
- Mr Tan Khoon Guan, Founder & Director, K.G. Tan & Co PAC
Representing the diversity and vibrancy of the profession, the new leaders comprise high-fliers in the corporate world and public accounting profession. New Council Members who are Professional Accountants in Business comprise the Senior Vice-President of Finance of Singapore Airlines, one of the world’s top airlines; Group CFO of UOB, a leading financial institution in the region; and CFO of Genting Singapore, which owns Resorts World Sentosa. New Council Members from the public accounting profession comprise the Founder and Director of an SMP, Senior Partner in a Big Four firm and Managing Partner of a mid-tier firm.
With the addition of the new Council Members, about one-third of the ICPAS Council now comprises new faces. The injection of fresh leadership talent is in line with the Institute’s goal of leadership revitalisation through an active and dynamic renewal process.
ICPAS President Dr Ernest Kan said, “The Institute welcomes these distinguished individuals, who will bring new ideas and perspectives to the Institute. Each of our new Council Members is an established leader in their field. With their diverse background, leadership skills, industry knowledge and extensive experience, these highly accomplished professionals will be able to contribute to helping ICPAS reach greater heights in a rapidly changing landscape. This is especially crucial as the Institute continues to work towards our vision of gaining global recognition, and propelling Singapore to be a global accountancy hub.”

Mr Chan joined Singapore Airlines Limited in October 2003 as Divisional Vice President, Finance and was promoted as Senior Vice President, Finance on 1 June 2006. Currently, Mr Chan is the Chairman of Singapore Aviation & General Insurance Company (Pte) Limited. He also serves on the Board of RCMS Properties Private Limited. Prior to joining SIA, Mr Chan was the Assistant General Manager, Financial & Corporate Services at Wing Tai Holdings Limited. He had served in finance portfolios at IBM Singapore and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

Apart from audit partner sign-off responsibilities for a diverse portfolio of listed and privately held clients, Mr Lee’s professional experience includes acting as Reporting Auditor for several IPOs on the Singapore Exchanging, providing due diligence and transaction support services in acquisitions as well as advisory services to companies, including listed companies, in corporate turnaround and recovery, corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions.

Ms Lee was appointed as Chief Financial Officer of Genting Singapore PLC on 1 January 2010 and has been with the Genting Group since 1994. She is responsible for the overall management of the financial, treasury and accounting functions of Genting Singapore PLC. She has over 20 years of financial, accounting and auditing working experience and participated in corporate finance and investor relations activities within the Genting Group.

Mr Lee leads the UOB Group’s financial and management accounting, investor relations and corporate services divisions. He also oversees the Central Treasury function and management of excess funds for the Group. Mr Ong heads the Audit practice of KPMG in Singapore has over 20 years of experience in providing audit and advisory services. He has led various projects including Internal Audit, Enterprise Risk Management, Business Process Management and accounting standards conversion and implementation services.

Mr Tan has more than ten years of experience in the fields of finance, accounting, auditing and structured and corporate finance advisory. Mr Tan set up his accounting firm, K.G. Tan & Co. PAC in 2006. The firm currently has a headcount of more than 30 staff and over 450 local and multinational clients from a diverse group of industries. The firm is also a member of Alliott Group, an international alliance of accounting, law and consulting firms with 170 members from over 200 offices in more than 70 countries.
