Welcome Address by ISCA Vice President Mr Kon Yin Tong at ISCA Run on 27 May 2017, at OCBC Square

Mr Teo Ser Luck

ISCA Advisor and Minister of State for Manpower

Fellow Runners

Good Morning

Thank you all for coming down bright and early on this lovely morning for the ISCA Run. This is the fourth year that ISCA is organising this run, and we hope to continue to do so, in encouraging healthy living and work-life balance among the accountancy profession and the public. We are pleased to once again be able to hold the ISCA Run at OCBC Square, which features a scenic view of the Marina Bay area.

Since our first ISCA Run in 2014, we have continued to attract runners not just from various segments of the accountancy sector but also the public as well. This year, we have about 1286 runners who signed up. We have runners from different ages and diverse walks of life here today, from a five-year-old who is participating in the 500 meter Kids Dash, to an 81-year-old gentleman running the five kilometre route.

We also have a number of runners representing their companies. The top four finishers for 10km Ladies and Men categories, and the 5km Ladies and Men categories will be awarded points that will contribute to their company’s overall score in the ISCA Games 2017. Apart from the leisure joggers, there are also quite a few elite runners who are looking to clock their personal best and finish among the top. I wish you all the best.

Apart from promoting healthy living and fostering camaraderie among the accountancy profession, the ISCA Run also aims to create greater awareness for ISCA Cares, a charity set up by ISCA in 2015. ISCA Cares is focused on providing disadvantaged Singapore youths with access to a quality education in accountancy. Last year, ISCA Cares issued its first batch of bursaries to 15 students under the ISCA Cares Education Programme. This would not have been possible without the firm support of our donors. To find out more about how ISCA Cares is helping underprivileged youths, visit the ISCA Cares booth where our staff volunteers can share more with you. We need your support in order to do more for our beneficiaries. I encourage you to donate generously towards this worthy cause.

Finally, before we flag off the run, allow me to wish you all an enjoyable time of mingling, bonding and running in this wonderful weather. Thank you.
