Welcome Address by ISCA President Mr Gerard Ee at the Singapore Accountancy Awards Dinner at Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre on 25 August 2016

Mr Teo Ser Luck, Advisor to ISCA and Minister of State for Manpower

Distinguished Guests

Ladies and Gentlemen

Good Evening.

On behalf of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants, I welcome you to the Singapore Accountancy Awards Dinner. This is the second time the Institute is organising this biennial awards since its inception in 2014, and we are excited to once again celebrate excellence in the accountancy profession and applaud our outstanding firms and individuals in the accountancy sector.

Today’s accountants are not just lauded for their technical proficiency. They are also recognised as strategic business advisors and problem solvers. Against the backdrop of a Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous, or more commonly known as VUCA business environment, the profession will have to continuously innovate and grow in order to stay relevant.

Therefore, the awards seek to recognise those who have demonstrated professional excellence and achieved growth through strategic innovation.

To underscore the importance of continuous growth, we have introduced the Outstanding Growth Award. This award, which is open to Small & Medium Practices, is given in recognition of efforts by firms to grow either organically or through acquisitions.

We hope that the winners will be inspirational role models and set the benchmark for others in the profession in its pursuit of excellence.

Singapore Accountancy Awards consists of two broad awards. The Business Excellence Awards seeks to honour accounting firms that stand out for their dedication to building a distinguished practice. The winners are selected based on their achievements in quality assurance and control, talent management, innovation, thought leadership, client services, and corporate social responsibility.

The Individual Excellence Awards aim to recognise individuals that embody strong leadership, ethics and integrity, and possess sound technical knowledge and experience. The winners are also selected for their contributions to the accountancy sector and the wider community.

We appreciate the continued support given to the Singapore Accountancy Awards.  We thank our panel of distinguished judges for taking the time out of their busy schedules to be part of the judging process. We also thank our strategic partners, the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority and the Singapore Accountancy Commission, for continuing to support the Awards.

Last but not least, we would like to thank Minister Teo Ser Luck, who is also ISCA’s Advisor, for gracing tonight’s dinner despite his busy schedule.

To conclude, allow me to extend my heartiest congratulations to this year’s outstanding winners. In keeping with the theme of the Awards this year, as we give you an ‘Ovation for Excellence’, take a well-deserved bow. (to initiate applause)
