ISCA Issues Amendments to the ISCA Standards as a Result of the Revisions to the ACRA Code from Using the Work of an External Expert

The amendments align to the revisions to the ACRA Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics for Public Accountants and Accounting Entities (ACRA Code), which introduced explicit ethical requirements for using the work of external experts in audit, assurance and non-assurance engagements.

Key Revisions

The amendments align the standards with the revised ACRA Code’s ethical requirements on using an auditor’s expert by:

  • Highlighting the presumption that the auditor must determine an expert has the necessary competence, capabilities and objectivity (CCO) before using their work.
  • Requiring the auditor to consider relevant ethical requirements that may prohibit the use of the work of an auditor’s expert.

The amendments are effective for audits and reviews of financial statements for periods beginning on or after 15 December 2026, and for other assurance and related services engagements beginning on or after 15 December 2026.

Amendments are made to the following standards:

  • SSA 620, Using the Work of an Auditor’s Expert
  • SSRE 2400 (Revised), Engagements to Review Historical Financial Statements
  • SSAE 3000 (Revised), Assurance Engagements Other than Audits or Reviews of Historical Financial Information
  • SSRS 4400 (Revised), Agreed-upon Procedures Engagements
