Artificial intelligence is rapidly moving from concept to application in Singapore’s accountancy sector, as demonstrated at a hands-on workshop hosted by the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) in partnership with OpenClaw SG on 15 April 2026.
With little publicity, the workshop attracted sign up from more than 250 finance professionals, business owners and AI developers attended the session, themed “Accounting and Finance Frontiers”, to explore how AI agents can be applied to real-world accounting workflows. Live demonstrations showed how custom-built tools can streamline tasks such as data extraction, analysis, reporting, project management and deadline tracking.
The workshop comes as demand rises for practical AI capabilities across Singapore’s accountancy sector, which comprises about 120,000 professionals. ISCA, the national accountancy body with over 45,000 members, is stepping up efforts to help the profession adapt to these changes.
Opening the session, ISCA Chief Technology Officer Mr Edmund Liu highlighted the importance of closer collaboration between accountants and technologists as AI adoption accelerates. Demonstrations by Mr Lionel Sim, Founder of AI Capitol and OpenClaw SG, Mr Richard Lee, Chief Architect at IntelWave, and Mr Darryl Wong, Accountant and Founder of Daisy Consultants, showcased how open-source AI tools can enhance productivity and support better decision-making.
Mr Liu said the profession is entering a phase where “AI bilingualism” will be critical.
“Professionals will need to bridge business and technology with a working understanding of both accounting and AI. While full automation will take time due to the judgment and regulatory nuance involved, AI has strong potential to streamline repetitive work and enhance productivity. Accountants must play an active role in shaping how it is applied,” he said.
To support this shift, ISCA will launch an AI Fluency Programme, supported by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), to equip accountancy professionals with the skills and confidence to work effectively with AI. The programme will be made available at no cost to ISCA members, as well as Singaporean citizens and permanent residents interested in applying AI within the accountancy sector.
Mr Lionel Sim, Founder of The AI Capitol and Claw Singapore, said: “It has become clear that AI adoption is the next step ahead for many companies, especially for those in the finance industry. We are glad to collaborate with ISCA to empower finance practitioners to learn more about how AI agents can help to support their processes and workflows, enabling greater efficiency and stronger outcomes.”
The workshop is part of ISCA’s broader push to equip finance professionals with future-ready capabilities, as the profession evolves towards greater use of automation, data-driven insights and AI-enabled workflows.
