Singapore Stewardship Principles

As the national accountancy body, the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants is pleased to support the Singapore Stewardship Principles (SSP). Introduced in 2016, the principles are an industry-led effort to encourage responsible investment and promote good stewardship practices amongst investors. Since then, capital markets have undergone profound developments as global concerns intensified over the impact of financial investments on the economy, society, and the environment. Stakeholders emphasised that investors should become better stewards by demonstrating a genuine intent to deliver sustainable performance and long-term value to clients and beneficiaries, as well as to factor in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations.

In March 2022, a second edition of the Singapore Stewardship Principles for Responsible Investors (SSP 2.0) is released updating practices to enhance Singapore's investment environment.

As stewards of companies, accountancy professionals have a critical role to play in being the conduit between the investee companies and investors to communicate how sustainable business value is created in an environment of good governance.
