The Board of Trek 2000 International Limited has appointed Mr Chay Yee Meng as an Independent Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of the company upon considering his qualification, experience and independence.
Mr Chay has wide ranging experience in the finance industry. He spent two years in audit and corporate taxation with an international auditing firm before spending five years with GM Singapore Pte Ltd. in various capacities in accounting, costing and systems. In 1987, he joined SCI Singapore as its Financial Controller and a Director and was later named SCI's Asia Regional Controller.
In 1992, Mr. Chay co-founded Natsteel Electronics (NEL), taking over a company which was about to be liquidated. As Founding Director and Chief Financial Officer of Natsteel Electronics, Mr. Chay and his team of management, successfully turned Natsteel Electronics into profitability and growth for the next five years. In 1997, NEL launched the largest IPO in Singapore with a market capitalization in excess of $700 million. In 2000, NEL had become the 5th largest contract manufacturer in the world with revenue of $2 billion. In 2001, NEL was taken private in a $4 billion deal and merged with US-based Solectron Technology, Inc. Mr. Chay then served as Solectron's Head of Finance, Asia-Pacific Region until 2003. Mr. Chay also co-founded ECS Holdings, and served as Founding Director and CFO until ECS went IPO in 2001. In 2003, Mr. Chay co-founded InfoWave; an engineering company specialized in developing equipment and solutions using GPS, RFID and other wireless technologies.
Mr. Chay graduated from the Nanyang Technological University with a Bachelor of Accountancy and is a Fellow of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants.
