ISCA CEO, Mr Lee Fook Chiew, was quoted in The Business Times on the question of "Is the global trading system under serious threat? How should Singapore businesses gird themselves for an environment of tariffs and possibly trade wars? This is what he has to share:
The global trading system will be under serious threat, if Trump’s tariffs spark off a for tit-for-tat retaliation by its trading partners. As Singapore is a small economy that thrives on international trade, the essential ingredients for securing our country’s future economic growth would be progressive trade policies, greater trade liberalisation and economic integration with our trading partners. This is demonstrated through the recent signing of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). - Lee Fook Chiew, Chief Executive Officer, Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA)
