28 September 2018 – The national accountancy body Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) has conferred honorary lifetime memberships to three distinguished government officials – Mr Benny Lim, Chairman of National Parks Board; Mr David Chew, Director of Commercial Affairs Department of the Singapore Police Force and Mr Wong Hong Kuan, Director of Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau.
The honorary membership is a privilege accorded on an exceptional basis to distinguished individuals who are non-ISCA members. It is conferred to individuals who have made significant contributions to the accountancy sector and wider business community. Honorary Members are elected by the ISCA Council from among those who have rendered service to the profession and business community and who are not members of ISCA. Mr Lim, Mr Chew and Mr Wong will now be part of the ISCA membership community of over 32,000 accounting professionals from diverse industries.
Mr Kon Yin Tong, President of ISCA, said: “Benny, David and Hong Kuan have each contributed significantly to Singapore’s development as a global business hub, owing to its strong economic and regulatory infrastructure, sound national security, stable political structure and good institutional corporate governance practices. Today, Singapore has a reputation as one of the world’s least corrupt countries, and one of the best cities for doing business. We are pleased to honour their efforts by presenting them with an honorary lifetime membership.”
Mr Benny Lim, Chairman of the National Parks Board, said, “I thank ISCA for this award and am ever grateful to the Institute for lending its critical expertise to help shape and develop the white-collar investigation training programme driven by CAD and CPIB, which have benefitted many of our law enforcement officers over the years.”
Mr David Chew, Director, Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) of the Singapore Police Force, said “ISCA plays an important role in enhancing the capability and technical skills of professional accountants. CAD is privileged to have an opportunity to partner ISCA in the fight against crime. The introduction of the Financial Forensic Accounting Qualification will enhance the profession’s ability to combat financial crime and I am honoured to be conferred ISCA’s Honorary membership.”
Mr Wong Hong Kuan, Director, Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau, said, “The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) has worked with the private sector to encourage ethical business practices and combat corruption relentlessly without fear or favour. Each of us has a part to play to stamp out corruption as we push on together, ensuring that Singapore remains a conducive place for investments and businesses. The CPIB and the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) are aligned in the common mission to keep Singapore corruption-free. It is a privilege to be conferred ISCA’s Honorary Lifetime Membership and I will do my best to continue this mission.”
